Is Magnesium Safe with Ritalin?

Magnesium supplementation at standard doses is generally safe with Ritalin. Avoid very high doses (>500mg/day) without medical guidance and take supplements 1–2 hours apart from medication.
Why this interaction occurs
Unlike amphetamines, methylphenidate excretion is less dependent on urinary pH. However, high-dose magnesium may modestly alkalinize urine and slightly prolong methylphenidate half-life. The clinical significance at typical supplemental doses is low.
Evidence
Evidence level: limited.
